One challenge that many species of animals face is loss of habitat. This can happen if humans cut down trees or move into areas in which these animals live. Another factor that can lead to habitat loss is climate change: Areas that were previously suitable for living can become unsuitable if the weather changes too much. When the area in which a species lives becomes smaller, problems can occur. For one thing, with a smaller territory, more animals are trying to find food, which often means there is not enough food for all. In addition, if there are more animals in a smaller area, it is easier for a predator to hunt and kill prey. In extreme cases, loss of habitat can even lead to the extinction of a species.
In some cases loss of habitat can cause the species to become extinct.
Humans cut down trees to help animals recover their habitat.
